Join Kanchenjunga marathon

It is a pleasure to welcome you all to the Kanchenjunga marathon – Sikkim’s first high altitude trail run.

One of the last utopias of the world - Sikkim is a hidden gem and arguably one of the loveliest destinations of India. It is a virtual pot-pourii of ethnic composition, ancient cultures, blooming rhododendrons, deep valleys and mountains that have to yet be explored or named.

From atmospheric Buddhist monasteries of west Sikkim to monumental religious statues in South Sikkim, friendly and cheerful urban centres in the east to the stunning views of Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest mountain (8586m), visible from almost any viewpoint in the state.

A strong preserve of Tibetan Buddhism, Sikkim's public aesthetics are executed in shades of ritualistic vermilion, gold, blue and green, which make striking photo-ops.

Set amidst this primeval backdrop of mighty mountains and rustic villages, is the setting of the Kanchenjunga Marathon.

Our marathon is a small step forward to encourage our communities and people to venture out, enjoy (Mother Nature – which most of us seem to have forgotten) and be active in physical sports.

It is a way to demonstrate that running can help us rejuvenate ourselves physically, socially and mentally. It is not necessary being first but rather the act of completing the race gives us pride and confidence that everything is indeed possible if one puts ones foot (mind) to it…

This feeling and experience of euphoria that comes on completion of a race is an invaluable emotion that can lead to a more vibrant and healthy future.

Proceeds of this race help us hold various youth & women empowerment courses and events throughout Sikkim. If you would like to donate to this worthy case please drop us a line.

Course highlights

This is high altitude trail running, so proper acclimatization is a must. The run is basically downhill, though there are two very steep uphill sections. There may be snow and ice on the upper part and considerable exposure along much of the marathon route. Past experience of rough trails is essential. This is one of the most spectacular marathons of the world. Our marathon package begins from Delhi, or if you like you can also join at our Yuksam base camp.
