Join Estonian Wilderness Marathon

The ultimate challenge for the true adventurer! You'll be crossing through forests and enormous lake dotted bogs throughout this unique and picturesque marathon in the beautiful Estonian wilderness.

The route will take you on an expedition through the most pristine forests and bogs of Estonia. When we say “expedition”, we mean it. Runners will travel through an uninhabited wilderness on a linear course starting out from Lahemaa National Park in the north and running 42k south, finishing in the center of Kõrvemaa Nature Reserve. This is a race not for the faint-hearted. There will be no options to drop out. You have to make it to the finish line on your own. You will be rewarded with the most special achievement and memories Estonian nature can offer.

There is also an option to get a feel of Estonian Wilderness Marathon without the pressure of competition on a shorter 25+km trekking course. It follows the actual marathon course from 19th km and runs through Põhja-Kõrvemaa nature reserve starting at Järvi lakes. The course crosses Suursoo bog, Jussi tarn fields and big forests to Aegviidu village.

Course highlights

Runners will travel through uninhabited wilderness on a linear course starting out from Lahemaa National Park in the north and running 42k south, finishing in the center of Kõrvemaa Nature Reserve in Aegviidu village.

The course is ca. 42,2 km, marked with neon marking tape on trees and branches, arrow signs. About half of the course follows National hiking trail with red/white or orange tot signs on trees. The next marking is always visible from the previous one. In addition, there are arrow signs drawn on ground with spray paint to indicate the correct route in trail crossings. Completing the course doesn’t require navigation.

Beware! The course follows narrow trails, wooden bogtrails, forestry roads etc. Your feet will probably get muddy and wet! Course map with water stations, can be downloaded from the race website from October 1st. The map is intended for monitoring own progress along the course and for spotting own location in case of emergency. Distance markings on the map are signed in terrain with km-signs (every 5km). As it is a trail run km’s are not 100% accurately measured.

The finish closes at 18:30. This leaves maximum 7h30min for reaching finish. Participants finishing later than 18:30 will not be timed and organisers might leave. Crossing Tallinn-Narva highway is allowed only through pedestrian tunnel on marked course!
